ACEC/Alabama promotes and improves the practice of engineering in Alabama. Incorporated in Alabama in 1956 and established in 1964 as a Member Organization of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the Council is recognized as the premiere business association for the consulting engineering profession. Founded in 1910, ACEC is headquartered in our nation’s capital in Washington, DC. ACEC is a federation of 51 state and regional councils representing the great breadth of America’s engineering industry.


With a membership of the leading independent engineering companies throughout the United States, ACEC members are engaged in a wide range of engineering works that propel the nation’s economy to enhance and safeguard America’s quality of life. ACEC Member Firms employ engineers, architects, land surveyors, technicians, scientists, and other specialists responsible for the nation’s private and public works annually. ACEC/Alabama operates from Alabama’s capital city of Montgomery with offices located in proximity to the Alabama State Capitol.

ACEC is “on the point ” for the entire engineering industry at the state and national level, to promote infrastructure investment and eliminating regulatory and tax barriers as the Legislature, at the state and national level.

ACEC federal Political Action Committee (PAC) helps to elect Congressional members who support ACEC’ s pro-engineer ing agenda.

ACEC’ s Minuteman Fund is the industry’s “war chest” for state legislative and legal battles of national importance.

State and National level scholarship program for engineering students

Regular Membership

Regular Membership shall be limited to those individual firms, parent firms, branch offices or subsidiaries whose resident: 1.) Maintain established offices for the practice of consulting engineering, as (I) sole proprietorship, (ii) as partnerships; or (iii) as corporations furnishing consulting engineering services provided that their officers act for them on professional policies and activities; 2.) Have principals registered or licensed professionally in accordance with the laws of Alabama; 3.) Practice consulting engineering in accordance with the ACEC/Alabama Professional and Ethical Conduct Guidelines; 4. )Practice under an organizational arrangement that does not involve a conflict of interest or that does not subordinate independent professional judgment to other considerations. Firms or corporations, wholly or partially owned by commercial, or construction contracting, manufacturing, sales, public utility, holding company or other similar organizations which function as service organizations for the controlling company, shall not be eligible for membership. 5.) The key principal shall be the voting member as designated by the Member Firm.

Associate Membership

Associate Membership shall be limited to those sole proprietors, firms, parent firms, subsidiaries and/or organizations that provide professional services of a scientific and technical nature that are complementary to the services provided by Member Firms. Associate Membership shall not be eligible to vote on ACEC/Alabama business, may not hold office in ACEC/Alabama.

Sustaining Membership

Sustaining Membership shall be limited to those sole proprietors, firms, parent firms, subsidiaries and/or organizations that provide business support services/products that are complementary to the services provided by Member Firms. Such members may include entities that supply goods or services that are specified by consulting engineers. Sustaining Membership shall not be eligible to vote on ACEC/Alabama business, may not hold office in ACEC/Alabama and cannot serve as chairperson of an ACEC/Alabama committee. Sustaining members may serve on any ACEC/Alabama committee, as appointed by the President and may attend and participate in ACEC/Alabama membership activities. In all such activities, however, the sustaining member shall serve without a vote, in an advisory capacity only.

Life Members

Shall be fully retired from active practice, be not engaged in contracting, manufacturing or any field of activity that would have rendered them ineligible for membership in the first instance and have been a Member for at least 10 years, and shall request to ACEC/Alabama Executive Committee to become life members and, as long as they remain inactive, may so continue without payment of dues. Written requests must be made to the ACEC/Alabama Executive Committee.
