Engineering Excellence Awards

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Alabama (ACEC/Alabama) annual Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate a high degree of innovation, achievement, value and engineering innovation.

For nearly sixty years, engineering firms have entered their most innovative projects and studies in competitions conducted by ACEC State Member Organizations (MO). State-level, qualifying projects are eligible to participate in the ACEC national-level competition which are sponsored by the MO.

EEA entries are accepted into one of several project categories: studies, research, and consulting engineering services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; special projects; small projects; energy; and industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities.

A distinguished panel of judges, possessing a vast array of built environment expertise will be convened to evaluate the projects. Projects from all over the globe are rated on the basis of: uniqueness and/or innovative applications; future value to the engineering profession and perception by the public; social, economic, and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of client/owner’s needs, including schedule and budget. The panel of judges will evaluate projects for engineering excellence using the established criteria, and will then select the top three state awards and projects that earn an honorable mention to be considered for entry into the national competition at ACEC/HQ in Washington, D.C.

ACEC/Alabama’s Engineering Excellence Awards competition provides firms with statewide and national recognition and a platform to showcase their talent and expertise by recognizing the most outstanding project achievements of the engineering profession.

All state-level entries will qualify to participate in the national-level ACEC EEA Competition. Engineering Excellence Award winning projects in Alabama, are eligible for entry into the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame.
